General Contract Work
No job is too large, historic or modern! We do it all!
This house from the 1920s needed an upgrade, but Bloomington has many requirements for houses this old. We presented custom made drawings and prints to the Bloomington Historic Preservation Commission to obtain certificate of appropriateness. We also found rare buff limestone to prove we planned a historic match.
The porch foundation was first doubled and a frame was made.
Note that the pillars are here cement filled blocks for a solid foundation.
Buff limestone was then hand cut to fit the solid foundation and complete the beautiful 1920s aesthetic.
Here the cement pillar foundation is surrounded by perfectly matching limestone.
Finally a roof was added that matched the original house perfectly. The result is a valuable addition to the home that is seamlessly added to the historic original.
This modern house needed considerable expansion. The owner wanted windows and a private entrance added to the back of the house.
We contracted the excavation and then cut into the brick walls. Here you can see the door well, brick walls, and pea-gravel steps we designed and installed. Also pictured is the sump pump we placed on the bottom of the well which connected to the existing drainage system.
We carefully matched the new brick to the rest of the house. Post anchors were sunk into the door wing walls to hold roofing. This was all sunk in concrete for long-term stability. Everything was carefully set in place and then connected in to house. We made sure all of this was in compliance with city and utility regulations. We installed perimeter drains attached to existing drains.
We installed a custom built roof and rafter system with appropriate aluminum anchors sunk into the brick for their integrity.
Beautiful French doors were installed at
basement entry.
Permanent aluminum flashing was installed to guarantee long lasting protection.
Here is the finished product.
