Brick Chimneys
Problems with your Bricks?
Maintaining historic brick in a home is a rewarding process that adds distinction and value to your home. However, it can present challenges that need to be addressed quickly or they can lead to property damage. Eroded mortar and cracked bricks can lead to water damage, unsightly brick, and collapse if left untreated.
Flashing is the metal that keeps water out. Galvanized steel was often used in the past leading to rusted flashing and water damage for the house.
Over our many decades of experience we have become experts at repairing and re-pointing brick seams. We can match any mortar so no unsightly repairs happen. Importantly, we give all the seams proper space to breathe and adjust so that we respect and integrate our repairs towards the longevity of the house.
Flashing, flues, and chimney tops can all damage the value of your house. Many historic homes were built with galvanized steel parts to protect the chimney which rusts and becomes so damaged they leak or collapse. A cracked chimney flue leads damage to the whole chimney structure.
